The Decemberist

November 27, 2015

It is positively the most wonderful time of the year here on the ranch. Why, we've already slaughtered three rare french hens and throttled that partridge that just would not gtfo of our pear orchard.

Round-up: Live from India

November 13, 2015

Greetings animals! Welcome to the last Round Up of 2015, the year that brought us nothing but rare exotic camembert and bicycles. I have left the ranch for India, where I am currently drinking Vodka with Maaza and recovering from one teeny tiny incie wincie Diwali firework incident in which I tragically lost my entire family.

Seizure News

We have another wonderful feature for you by Anna Spargo-Ryan. Head First is another foray into how not to speak to those who are ill, specifically those suffering from anxiety. Anna sends the reader head first into an MRI machine with her, sticks needles into our veins and splashes blood all over hospital floors. Speak softly and carry a Toblerone, hospitals aren't for everyone.

In Flashers we have Up High by Claire Bradshaw and Asymmetriphobia by Tania Marlowe. Up High shows us the safety of a blanket, no matter the location, and Asymmetriphobia is about mistakes, hastily made solutions and the panic attack that follows.

It's the most wonderingly time of the year apparently

Here are some things to think about in dot points because I am literally sitting on the floor in the corner while everyone else eats Rawalpindi Chana Paneer pizza.

What does your author photo look like? Do you look accomplished? Are you wearing a hat? Have your grown a moustache? Have you grown a moustache on top of that moustache? Check out how author's photos change our perception of writers.

Let your kids read whatever they want. I read Goosebumps like the dickens and look at me now.

Read about Man Booker Prize winner Marlon James in Vogue Magazine and his love for Kendrick Lamar.

Check out Buzzfeed's ultimate guide to being published in a literary magazine.

Read Mary Gaitskill, author of The Mare, discuss what Anna Karenina means to her in The Atlantic's latest in the By Heart series, in which authors discuss their favourite passages from books.

It's nearly Christmas and we all know there's a reason why there are so many birthdays in September, so read up on some modern sex ed over at BookRiot.

Read some of the most captivating first sentences of the 21st century and see if you can do better.

Watch Kurt Vonnegut's lost NYU lecture in animated form, on what it takes to be a writer.

Learn how to repair the parchment in your ancient manuscript over at Paris Review.

Did you know this about Carrie Fisher? (General Organa, to you).

That's all from me! We have Seizure Editions 3 on the way, and some more amazing projects planned for 2016. It's time for me to get some sleep because it's Henna day tomorrow and I have to get up before the Buffalos.
