Okay, so it’s a rainy start to the Sydney Writers' Fest, but if you’re the type of person who lets that dampen your spirits, then you deserve to stay at home and miss out on all the fun. Eddie Sharp kicked off his Festival Club evenings with a great program. Safe to say Amelia Lester is my new life goal. And if you’re not familiar with Cheryl Strayed’s inspirational tagline, ‘Write Like a Motherfucker’, then take a moment, please. Zoe Norton-Lodge’s story also made wine come out of my nose.
If you’re reading this then you’ll probably enjoy the event Literary Mag Revival, which is on this afternoon, so finish reading my Round-Up and then go take a shower. Seizure editor, Alice Grundy, will be there with Sam Cooney (The Lifted Brow), Rebecca Starford (KYD) and Craig Taylor (Five Dials).
The Emerging Writers' Fest has also kicked off this week (yeee-haaa). Our first recommendation is Sweatshop Stories on Sat 25th. If you haven’t acquainted yourself with Michael Mohammed Ahmad and the work him and his team are doing in Western Sydney, then get in the know with our Seizure Sessions podcast, or take a look at Felicity Castagna’s amazing online resource ‘So You Want to be a Writer?’. The EWF Late Night Live series are also featuring lots of your fave lit mags including TLB, KYD, Ampersand and Seizure!
If you can’t be there in RL, you can be there in twitter spirit #ewf13.
The Vivid program also has some treats. One event, called ‘The Future of Arts Publishing, Journalism and Criticism’, looks particularly tasty. Print space, emags, longform, self-publishing – this talk is going to cover it all. Guest speakers include James Ley (SRB) and Angela Bennetts (NYWF). Full event details here.
In other exciting news:

The Lord Mayor’s Creative Writing Awards 2013 – it’s a big title with a lot of awards and a lot of money. Categories include short fiction, poetry, the novella, graphic short story and narrative non-fiction. Something for everyone!
Also, Seizure ‘Sport’ is open for submissions until the end of June. All Seizure submissions go right here.
Hope you’re all MOTIVATED & INSPIRED. That’s why I’m here!
