So it’s a New Year, New You for Seizure with the launch of the new site bringing new faces, new projects and A LOT of new things to read and submit to. With so much new-ness I thought I’d kick off our Round-Up calendar with a brief summary of what’s on offer at Seizure... so far anyway.
So, here it is:
AltTxt with the brilliant Justin Wolfers. It’s for people who GET the internet. But also for people who are damn crazy and willing to write a whole story using HTML. We’ve got an interview with Canadian author Robin Sloan coming up and a mind-bender from Ryan O’Neil, so keep your browsers open for that. It’s a pretty broad field here, so get brainstorming and pitch your work via our Submittable portal.
Seizure Poetry with our first ever in-house poet, Fiona Wright, at the wheel. And, boy howdy she moves fast. We’ve already got three sub-poetry projects in the works: Epistles at Dawn – poems in the form of correspondence from one poet to another. Swear Jar – in the poetic tradition of Samuel L. Jackson. Bout Rimés – a 17th Century parlour game for the decidedly un-faint of heart. Pitch your poetic stuff here.
Prose Shop is a long-form writing class run by Seizure and held at Gleebooks. The workshop is designed for writers who already have a project underway or in the planning stages. Ten writers per class, with David Henley and Alice Grundy providing support and tutelage. The first workshop is full up but stay tuned for future courses.
The Long View, in which Jason Childs bring you a series of long-form interviews with Australian novelists. His first v. long chat with Berndt Sellheim is up on the website. Creepy moving GIF included.
Viva La Novella 2 – we announced the recipients of our four guest editorships in November, and the shortlisted novella authors are being announced NEXT WEEK!!! In 2014 we’ll be following the progress of our editors and authors as they work to produce four stellar novellas which Seizure will be publishing and launching in June this year.
Stories of Sydney will be a place-focused series, collaborating with writers from around Sydney. We’re very excited to be partnering up with the team from Sweatshop and the University of Western Sydney for this one. More details here.
We’ll still be publishing Features and Fictions, with two new themes being launched this year. Like the mag, without the paper. Stay tuned.
Flashers is back for another year publishing short, short fiction. We’re always on the hunt for that little gem that’s sitting on your laptop or in your wee moleskine that’s perfect in its 50–500 word form. Submit here.
And Round-Up will still be bringing you a run-down of the current literary events, competitions, call-outs, shout-outs, fiction, articles, writings tips and more. If you’re a contributor publishing your work or a someone doing something great for emerging writers, let us know via the Twitter @seizureonline or email us.
And lastly: as a big thank you to all our volunteers, writers and readers, we’ve also got a big party in the works. Details to come soon but I will say if you were thinking of putting that old-school, damn-fine party dress/dancing shoes into storage...don’t.
Thanks for reading and being a part of the Seizure transformation. Hopefully you’ve already spotted a few projects that tickle your fancy. We’re excited for 2014 and hope you can be a part of it!
