Matthew Mitcham

Matthew Mitcham became well known for coming out before his Olympic debut in 2008, making him the only out gay male competing at the Beijing Games. He then became even more well known for winning a gold medal at those Games. Since then, he has become an advocate for mental health, sharing his experiences of depression and substance abuse via different media, including the award-winning cabaret show Twists and Turns. Until someone offers him a job that pays actual money he’ll just keep on diving ad infinitum.
