Born in Kosovo in 1960, Xhevdet Bajraj is an ethnic Albanian Kosovar poet now residing in Mexico. In 1999 he was granted asylum at Casa Refugio Citlaltépetl through the International Parliament of Writers program for persecuted writers. He is the author of several award-winning books of poetry, including Ruego albanés (winner of the Goliardos International Prize for Poetry), Cuando los ángeles lloran, Blues bajo el cielo indígena, Luz negra and El tamaño del dolor. He also co-starred in the multi-Ariel Award winning film Aro Tolbukhin: En la mente del asesino, directed by Agustí Villaronga. He currently teaches literature at the Autonomous University of Mexico City.
