Who are you reading these days?
Well, I've run out of Philip K Dick to read, so I'm trying to explore the Strugatskys and save up thousands of dollars to get the untranslated Lem's into English.
What are some of your favourite books and authors?
There's really a lot I've liked so it's hard to pinpoint, by mentioning any authors I don't want people to presume I haven't enjoyed others I'm just being forced to answer a question. That being said, His Master's Voice by Stanislaw Lem.
Do you watch TV? If so, what kind of show are you into?
Not really, I'm trying to quit. You'd be ashamed to know the kind of trash I watch.
What are you working on right now?
The second movement of The Quiet Darkness. Bumbly 2 is being edited, and I'm making serious inroads on The Hunt for Pierre Jr.
Do you have any favourite artists?
Edward Gorey...Rene Magritte...
Give me a favourite adage or witticism.
Bite me.
What sort of music would be good to read your story to?
I listened to The Veils a lot while writing it. I'm really hoping they'll release a new album to help me get through the second movement.
What was the starting point or inspiration for The Quiet Darkness?
I really wanted to write a different vampire novel. I'm not really into the gothic symbolism or the romance in disguise sort of vampire. I read Richard Mathieson's I am Legend (please don't associate it with the film), quite a while back and felt that was more what I was after. I'm also always intrigued by logic-consequence, so if someone can live forever, how does that effect them. If someone does have super-strength, etc etc. These things change the nature of the beast, so I like how the vampire hypothesis can be used.
If you've got a question for the author, please don't hesitate to ask in the comments.
