Seizure is open for submissions!
We are on the look out for our next authors, in genre or out, if you've got a strong voice, we'd love to hear it. Seizure is a bold new experiment in publishing and we want more people to be a part of it.
Submission Guidelines
We prefer a cold read so: Don’t send a blurb and don’t send a synopsis. Send the first 10,000 words to seizure@xou.com.au and we’ll go from there. In the email you must also acknowledge that you have read the full terms and conditions on our website or we just won’t be able to bring ourselves to look at it.
- SEIZURE is both an online and offline publication intended to promote and publicise new authors.
- SEIZURE's core are the ongoing serialisation of novels and novellas, but we also like to include a good short story when we come across one.
- Writings are released simultaneously on this website and internationally in the form of Seizure Offline, which is a book magazine hybrid. For more information on Seizure Offline click here.
- Each author will have their own blog which can be followed and subscribed to by readers.
- Once an author's novel or story is complete we will release a complete book of their work.
Editorial Process and Policy
When a story is submitted to Seizure, short or long, it is read by at least 2 members of the reading committee and if both approve we contact the author and enter discussions.
The reading committee is a revolving group as we like to get specific readers appropriate for each genre. All communications are funneled through the email seizure at xou dot com dot au
Discussions are an important part of our review process. We believe that no story is complete and finished without at least, at the very least, 3 editorial rounds. Editing is the best way to improve a story and it also tests how the author plays with others. Seizure is a partnership. It is not a regular publishing relationship and requires a lot of interaction and mutual respect between the author and the editor. If a good working relationship is formed then we move on to the making it happen phase.
Our editing policy, apart from the ideal that everything can be better, is also core to Seizure's existence. We do not dumb things down (if anything we like to dumb things up). We are intelligent people who enjoy a certain reading level that is often hard to find on the shelves. All we want is to bring good works into the world.
